homeless

I am feeling a little down right now so this will be quick.

I have had one question weighing on me heavily lately. It just keeps repeating itself in my mind over and over and over again. Actually I have had a lot of questions rolling around in my head lately, but I won’t go into that right now. The questions in my head like my love/hate relationship with Beyonce are things that I assume every one deals with at some point in their life, but I will ask the most important question of this week:

What do homeless people do?

The simple answer is be homeless. That is a given, but what else do they do?

About two nights ago, while I was walking home from work listening to music, a homeless man walked quickly pass me. (Yes, he was homeless. I have seen enough examples of Japanese homeless people to be able to spot one in a crowd of ganguro.) He came walking by me pretty quickly which is odd for homeless people. Normally when I see them they are doing one of three things; 1) Sleeping in a box or a soft patch of grass, 2) Walking slowly along a sidewalk or in a train station giving people conniption fits, 3) Digging through piles of trash looking for recyclable things to sell… somewhere.

Homeless people never walk fast.

There are 24 hours in the day. You can only sleep, meander, and dig for so long. So now I wonder, WHAT THE HELL DO HOMELESS PEOPLE DO ALL DAY? I am so curious that I am considering, not deeply off course, of being homeless for a year. I just want to know.

Feeding ourselves has become an almost thoughtless process. The creation of refrigerators, the pasteurization process, and other methods of food preservation have rendered hunting and gathering to the status of hobbies. Do homeless people fill their day with things like that? Are there groups of homeless warriors stalking the streets looking of lonely dogs and cats to eat or do they hunt something with a little more flesh and a larger brain?

I simply must know!
